Album Reviews: J. Cole and Drake

Some Great and Hilarious Reviews off of  J. Cole's and Drake's New Stuff.

Enjoy:

I Was Just Like Young Simba

Bought the album today been playing since 9 in the morning, easily exceeded my expectations, knew it would, now I need to do it justice by writing a decent review for all those who haven’t even heard of him at my college.

Heres what I got:

J. Cole : King of the New School

2011 has been a monumental year for the Hip Hop genre of the music world. With the likes of Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa blowing up onto the rap game it would be fair to say a new generation of Hip Hop moguls are emerging. Hip Hop fans have also been spoiled by the return of Lil Wayne who released his album “Tha Carter IV” in August, with the 2 kingpins Kanye West and Jay Z teaming up to create a Hip Hop masterpiece classic in “Watch The Throne”.

However it would be fair to say that probably the most quiet on the scene of all the up coming artists would be Jermaine Cole, otherwise known by his stage name J.Cole, could turn out to be the most important Hip Hop artist of our generation. The 26 year old  rapper from North Carolina is now set to release ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’, one of the most anticipated album releases remaining this year. Since becoming the first rapper to be signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label, a string of mixtapes, tour stints supporting Drake and Rihanna, his first studio self produced sophomore album is set to drop on September 27th. But for a rapper who views himself as a bit of an underdog, September 27th might just be his day to step off of the sidelines. J. Cole has said that the reason for the subtitle “The Sideline Story” is because he feels since being signed to Jay-Z it has been like being on the sidelines for your favourite basketball team, and you’re just waiting until the coach puts you on. On May 3rd, 2011 J. Cole stated on Twitter “All singles done. Album ridiculous. Title Perfect. Music incredible. “

It includes features from Trey Songz, Drake, Missy Elliott and his mentor Jay-Z. The 18 track album consists of classic beats reminiscent of early Jay Z with party tunes such as “Cant Get Enough”, with tracks such as “Dollar And  A Dream III” & “Rise And Shine” truly showing the raw lyrical ability of Coles that creates deep meaningful rap with the wit and confidence that makes one to think back to the days of Tupac in “2Pacalypse Now” as he exerts the same passionate delivery and stern words. Cole’s transition to mainstream status puts no strain on his story as Cole trudges through an ominous production, metaphorically portraying his own struggle. Cole diverges into more pressing issues throughout the album, but Cole World… does provide some slick, sharp moments which aim to catapult him into the masses after some lighter moments.

There’s little wonder as to why J. Cole has the backing of Jay Z  as  the young rhymer exhibits the traditional emcee role with maturity. So much so that the veteran emcee steps away from the executive table to add a verse to their much anticipated collaboration on “Mr Nice Watch.” Taking a sped up, robust instrumental Cole stunts hard on the doubters, fully embracing his celebrity status as Jigga keeps up with young Simba with a solid verse

If there is one aspect of …The Sideline Story which  helps Cole’s debut, it’s that most of the production sis handled by the rapper himself.  J prouduces an array of lush piano keys and 90s inspired arrangements which further echo both his toil-tinged bars as well as his delight in his newly acquired status. “God’s Gift” is powered by rampant drums and excited guitar riffs bulking up J. Cole’s empirical performance, whilst “Breakdown” draws on his own personal pains of an absent father and a substance inflicted mother, set to a kaleidoscope of musical flavours on the beat. As a result gives a new sound to Hip Hop that acts as an exciting breath of fresh air for fans of Hip Hop, young and old.

“Cole World :The Sideline Story” still has to pass the test of record sales, but there is no doubt a new saviour of Hip Hop has arrived, this album proving that New School rap is the future, with J.Cole being at the forefront for many years to come.

Hope that gets them interested aha.

Drizzy Drake Word Play

I left “Marvins Room” to go to “Club Paradise” I met this wonderful woman who told me she had some “Trust Issues” due to past relationships. We fell in love fast because we both have a “Free spirit” and we made “Headlines” for being the happiest couple. The next day I was listening to “Dreams money can buy” and she said Drake was horrible I told her “Take Care” cause on OCT 24, I’m divorcing her.
